Injuries pile up for Retainers

Injuries continue to menace El Presidente's first team plans. With Johnny G and Fitch already on the treatment table, news has now come in of a serious injury for Aiden, who fractured his leg in a sunday league game. The youngest Tovey has made a real impact since joining in pre-season and his loss will be a major blow. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Aiden!

Weekend round up

El Presidente writes about saturday's 1-0 defeat to Tebby:

Another strong performance with excellent passing and moving from the back through to the front, but another week where we lacked the final ball through and the goal we so richly deserved. Tebby's winner came against the run of play, 77 minutes in and their one and only shot gave them the lead. We came back strong and substitute Rich Jackson came the closest to scoring with his second touch but was just wide. Nothing more to add, we need to shoot more and believe like the first 4 games and the results will come. We are still in the mix at the top and next week is cup game against Bengal so a real good opportunity to shoot more than ever.

Ressies report:

The reserves were cruelly denied a deserved point when a late wonder goal for top of the table Saints won the game for them. In a brutal encounter featuring the kind of physical assaults to be expected from any Saints team, the reserves went toe to toe with them and dominated the first half. We took the lead when a poor clearance from their keeper went straight to Pavey, who guided the ball carefully back into the bottom corner. The equaliser came from a long punt downfield by their keeper which eluded Ash and allowed their lightening striker to bear down on and then round Javi. Mr Galdon did his best to cripple him with a classic lunge but it was too late and the ball rolled into the net, although the striker did have to hobble off for the remainder of the half. Unfortunately he was able to come back and it was he who volleyed in the winner with fifteen minutes to go. Overall this was a great performance against the best team we have played this season, but we now have to find a way to turn possession and good football into goals and victories.

May the Brian be with you

The one and only Brian May, one of the originals and the ultimate G&W warrior sends a pre-season message to the class of 2015

'Dear Lads.  I trust you have all enjoyed a good summer. Now the hard graft begins. Lets all pull together to re-establish ourselves as a leading respected Downs League Club and make promotion back to the first division a must. Hard work, belief in your own ability and encouraging each other on and off the field will make such a difference to achieving that aim. May I wish both teams and the managers every success for the new season.  Good luck on Saturday. Regards, Brian.'
